FRENCH AND ENGLISH GENERAL SECONDARY EDUCATION

ENGLISH SUBSYSTEM

The English subsystem in Cameroon is based on the British educational model. It is structured in two cycles:

  • The First Cycle, ranging from Form One to Form Five, concludes with the GCE Ordinary Level (O-Level) examination.
  • The Second Cycle, consisting of Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth, leads to the GCE Advanced Level (A-Level).

The emphasis is on in-depth learning, critical thinking, and mastery of English, science, literature, and social sciences. This system effectively prepares students for higher education both nationally and internationally.

FRENCH SUBSYSTEM

French subsystem prepares learners to pursue higher education in all fields: science, arts, law, economics, medicine, etc., while instilling in them the values of rigour, responsibility and openness.

French subsystem is one of the two main types of secondary education available. It builds on primary education and aims to provide learners with a solid and versatile intellectual education. It comprises two cycles:

  • The first cycle, which lays the foundations for learning in specific subjects (mathematics, science, literature, history and geography, modern languages, etc.).
  • The second cycle, in which pupils deepen their knowledge according to a series (A, C, D, TI) geared towards higher education.

The objectives of general education are to:

Develop analytical, reasoning, communication and independent learning skills;

Prepare students for official exams (BEPC, Probatoire, Baccalauréat).

Educate informed citizens who are able to adapt to the demands of the modern world.

Educational support is provided in an environment supervised by qualified teachers, with personalised monitoring, digital tools and complementary educational activities (clubs, outings, workshops, etc.).
